Technical Specifications

The trailer, short, and feature are all formatted 1.85:1. The whole image is important to the story, so be sure you are showing the entire 1.85 image, side-to-side and top-to-bottom, and that focus is sharp across the entire picture.

Your theater sound system should be tuned to 85dB (C-weighted) on all screen channels using pink noise. The correct fader setting on Dolby and DTS systems is 7. On SDDS systems, the correct master volume setting is 0.

Disney/Pixar and Dolby are introducing a new sound format on D-Cinema presentations of TOY STORY 3: Dolby Surround 7.1.

2D D-Cinema Specifications

The DAY & NIGHT short and TOY STORY 3 feature are in the same encode. The trailer for TANGLED is supplied as a single separate encode.

Total size of the D-Cinema Package is 178 GB. Be sure you have enough room on your server before ingesting.

Projection Lamp Levels

Lamp Levels

Projection lamp levels that are set too low have a disastrous effect on the picture. When projected at the SMPTE standard of 14fL full white, the image is sharp and colorful. At lower levels, the colors become muddy and gray. The picture has less snap to it and feels lifeless. Important details in the darker areas will disappear if the light levels are too low.

Select the projector color and sizing format using the DCDM_XYZ_185 PCF file. Please ensure that this PCF file has been loaded and tested on your Digital Cinema Projector. If you have any questions, please call the TOY STORY 3 DIGITAL PROJECTION HOTLINE: (800) 99-FILMS, Option 2

  • Set projector brightness to 14fL using the DCIXYZWhite test pattern (be sure the correct PCF has been selected before measuring brightness). Note: if the DCIXYZ White test pattern is not installed, please contact the hotline immediately for instructions.
  • Load KDM.
  • QC your show playlist.

  • Call Technicolor at 800-99-FILMS, Option 2 to verify that QC has been completed

When you open up the Ingest application (or when you plug in the drive and the Ingest application opens) confirm that you have enough free space (200.1 GB or more) to ingest the whole package. If not, go into Cinelister to delete content and then repeat the Cleanup routine if necessary.

The first key will be delivered June 16, 2010 and will expire July 2, 2010. New KDMs will be delivered weekly thereafter.

The most frequent reason for a missed show is failure to load the renewal KDM when it arrives. Load your renewal KDM immediately upon receipt. Do not wait until Friday morning just before showtime.

Load your content and KDM (KDMs are server specific) for TOY STORY 3 on all the servers in your theater. Then you'll have the flexibility to move the audience to another digital auditorium, if needed.

The format for this release is FLAT 1.85 (1998x1080). The supplied hard drive includes a special Framing Chart. You will find it under the file name: Toy-Story-3-2D-Framing-Tech-V6.0_F_EN-XX_51_2K_DI_20100504_TDC

Framing Chart

It is mandatory that your projector is set to 2k 3D FLAT 1.85 (1998x1080).

  • The GREEN LINES on the right and left must be visible regardless of the keystoning.
  • The YELLOW LINES on the top and bottom should be visible.
  • The RED LINES must not be visible.

The color bar is provided to ensure you are in the proper color space. If the color hues do not match closely, then you are not in the right color space. Please contact your system integrator to correct the issue.

Dolby 7.1

Sound

TOY STORY 3 is the very first movie to be mixed and presented in Dolby Surround 7.1, which introduces an exciting new development in theatrical sound. In addition to standard Left and Right Surrounds, Dolby Surround 7.1 provides two additional discrete surround channels: Left Surround Back and Right Surround Back. The two new Back Surrounds enhance directionality in panning 360 degrees around the theater.

For theaters that already have Dolby EX capability, the upgrade to Dolby Surround 7.1 is quick and inexpensive. For others, the upgrade is simple and requires minimal work. Dolby will be providing Dolby Surround 7.1 playback capabilities in the Dolby CP650 and Dolby CP750 digital cinema audio processor lines.

For venues that have not upgraded to Dolby Surround 7.1, TOY STORY 3 D-Cinema Package will also carry Pixar’s traditional 5.1 EX Surround encoding.
